About this activity

Descubre tradiciones, sabores y comunidades rurales durante un recorrido cultural desde Puerto Plata.

What to do

Discover the rural essence of the Dominican Republic in an experience that combines local traditions, gastronomy, cocoa, tobacco and Dominican culture while visiting different communities in the Puerto Plata countryside.

The adventure begins with a guided journey toward the town of Imbert, passing through rural landscapes and small communities filled with local traditions.

Your first stop will be at an artisan cheese factory, where you’ll learn about the traditional cheese-making process carried out by local families who continue preserving these techniques.

Later, you’ll visit the town square before continuing to La Piragua, a small community where you’ll discover an old sugar cane molasses factory still operating using traditional methods passed down through generations.

The experience continues at the home of Doña Catalina, a local artisan who will share her knowledge about crafting everyday objects using natural materials such as banana leaves and palm fibers while welcoming you with traditional Dominican coffee.

During the tour, you’ll also visit Saballo, where you’ll explore a tobacco plantation and a small cigar factory. Here, you’ll learn about the artisanal tobacco process and taste the traditional Mamajuana drink.

Later, you’ll enjoy a traditional Dominican lunch in Imbert before ending the experience in Altamira, visiting an organic chocolate factory and cocoa plantation where you’ll taste handmade chocolate and local fruit wines.

Between culture, traditional flavors and rural communities, this experience offers an authentic way to discover the Dominican Republic beyond the beaches.
