On this day trip from Bogota, we will explore the villages of Nocaima and La Vega, as well as the El Bambú panela farm to learn about traditional sugar cane cultivation.
Day Trip Details
We will pick you up at your hotel in Bogota and begin our journey to Nocaima and La Vega, both located in Cundinamarca.
After approximately a 1.5-hour drive, we will arrive in Nocaima and visit the El Bambú farm, where a local farming family will welcome us. This region has a notable history of producing panela, ideal for sugar cane cultivation.
Our hosts will guide us through their land, explaining the various stages of sugar cane cultivation from planting to harvesting, including the caña al trapiche process, which involves grinding sugar cane and extracting its juice.
During the visit, we will have breakfast, featuring an arepa with scrambled eggs and guarapo, the beverage made from sugar cane. Additionally, we will explore the house-museum displaying historical objects related to sugar cane cultivation.
At noon, we will travel to the center of Nocaima for about 1 hour of free time for lunch.
We will then proceed to La Vega, where we will take a guided tour of the town's scenic streets, surrounded by the Colombian Cordillera Central, offering breathtaking views.
Finally, we will return to the starting point, concluding approximately 9 hours of hiking.
