Samana Overview

The tiny town of “Santa Barbara de Samana" aka Samana is one of the most beautiful destination as in the Dominican Republic that sits on the Atlantic Ocean yet has the smallest population in the country.  The mountainous town sits on the Peninsula and is surrounded by 40kms of beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters, tropical forests, waterfalls and a breeding ground for Humpback Whales makes it perfect for family vacations and those wanting to escape for some adventure and relaxation.

Due to the geography of Samana the town has been fought over, bought and occupied by several different countries dating back to the 1700’s, Spain, Haiti, France, Britain even the US and Germany have held rain over the Peninsula or tried too.  With the deep channels, protected coves and beaches and the mountainous backdrop with its lush vegetation you can see why so many wanted this magnificent location.  The main language spoken is Spanish but English is commonly used, Samana is not your typical Dominican Republic vacation destination due to it’s strong European presence.

Getting to Samana you need to fly into the Aeropuerto Internacional El Catey, daily flights daily from Puerto Rico, Europe, Canada and the US. The drive depending on your hotels location will take from 30mins to 1 hour, transportation can be pre-book or at the airport on arrival.
